Guilford Goes Global!
April 4 - December 14, 2007
Take the museum’s Guilford magnet (available in the gift shop) to a famous or distinctive location and take a photo of it there. When you send us the photo, we’ll display it in the Visitor Center lobby for everyone to see. The display is available for viewing during regular museum hours. Free admission.
Holidaze: The Real Story of Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas
October 3 - December 14, 2007
Learn why the Puritans did not celebrate Christmas, the myths behind the first Thanksgiving, and how All Hallow’s Eve became a night of costumes and candy. This annual holiday exhibit aims to separate the facts from the myths of what we think we know about the holidays in the 17th century and today. The exhibit is available for viewing during regular museum hours and is included with museum admission.

Puritans at Play!
10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Believe it or not, the early New England colonists did enjoy having fun. So we invite you to gather at the museum for a day of old-fashioned games and refreshments. And, in honor of Connecticut Open House Day, we’re open for free!

Historic Guilford Twilight Tours
5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Rarely open at night, all six of Guilford’s history museums are open for an evening of tours, refreshments, entertainment, and activities during this popular annual event. Visit the Dudley Farm, Henry Whitfield State Museum, Hyland House, Medad Stone Tavern, Thomas Griswold House, and Woodruff Farm Barn Museum. Tickets are $15 (free for children 12 and younger), and may be purchased on the night of the event at any of the museums. One combination ticket gives visitors access to all six sites; if you do not visit all of them that evening, the ticket can be used to visit the site(s) you missed during that museum’s regular hours for the remainder of the regular season.
October 6-7, 2007
Hammonasset Festival
Visit our booth at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison! We’ll have a display about the area’s first settlers – the local Native American tribe, the Menuncatucks – and what happened when Henry Whitfield and the other English Puritans arrived in 1639. Children can make their “mark” (a drawing that represents their signature) like the Native American marks seen on 17th century land deeds. We’ll also be selling a variety of Native American items from our gift shop, including arrowheads, figurines, and a large selection of books. Contact Friends of Hammonasset for information about hours and admission to the festival.
